I hate web sites with primitive "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" signs all over the place, so I'm going to just cough up a few things I dig to get you started. This also serves the purpose of allowing me to procrastinate getting the important stuff done.
Movies
In no particular order, the best four movies out there are:
The Big Lebowski
Possibly the funniest movie ever made, if you are a baby boomer. If you're younger than that, you need to move on to Raising Arizona, which I totally do not get. Comedies don't often get the respect they deserve, but when you have a legitimately funny mainstream movie that has attained the cult status of Rocky Horror and the Holy Grail put together, in which nearly every line is recognizable and quotable, you have to give the filmmakers credit. And the industry did at the last Oscars.
Edward Scissorhands
The holy trinity of Burton, Depp, and Elfman. They are more than the sum of their parts. I can't really say why I think Burton hasn't done it better since this masterpiece. Big Fish was good. Sleepy Hollow was good. Edward Scissorhands was genius.
The Crying Game
Unfortunately, I didn't catch it the theaters, and I saw Jaye Davidson in Stargate before I saw Crying game. He would have totally fooled me. Really, I couldn't believe he was a dude in Stargate. I'm not a huge fan of love stories because they usually try and coerce a reaction out of you. Crying Game took a love story, fed it some acid, and made it believable.
Pulp Fiction
The grandaddy of them all, best movie ever made! Garcon means boy.
